Traceway Android SDK

First release of the Traceway Android SDK: error tracking for native Android apps. The wire format is identical to the Flutter SDK, so the same Traceway backend ingests reports from both.

Features

  • Automatic capture of all uncaught Java/Kotlin exceptions on every thread, with full JVM stack traces
  • View click handler throws, background thread throws, and main Handler.post throws, all caught automatically
  • The last ~10 seconds of println / System.out / System.err output attached to every report
  • HTTP requests captured through the bundled OkHttp interceptor (method, URL, status, duration, byte counts)
  • Activity push / pop transitions recorded automatically
  • Custom breadcrumbs via Traceway.recordAction(...)
  • Disk persistence, so pending exceptions survive app restarts
  • Gzip-compressed transport
  • One-line setup from Application.onCreate()
  • API 21+, published to Maven Central

Limitations

  • No session recording. Unlike the Flutter SDK, this library does not record video. The screenCapture, capturePixelRatio, maxBufferFrames, and fps options on TracewayOptions are accepted for API parity but have no effect.
  • android.util.Log calls bypass System.out and are not captured automatically. Wire up a Timber tree calling TracewayClient.instance?.recordLog(...) to capture every Logcat line.
  • Non-OkHttp HTTP clients need manual recording through TracewayClient.instance?.recordNetworkEvent(...).

For Flutter apps that also need session recording, use the traceway Flutter package. Same wire format, plus video, across iOS, Android, and macOS.
